MECHANICS MIRROR

Student innovation project

This projects brings a new mechanic to game play by using the player an asset in Augmented reality.

until now, mobile AR games only added to the world around the player. Now, with innovation, the players themselves are reapplied back into the game world in a meaningful way,
helping to narrowing the gap between the real world and the augmented space.

This design uses the front facing camera to make the player a asset in the game. The visual data  is then sent across the network for other players to see and add things themselves in a multiplayer puzzle design.
Further moreThis is also being done on a mobile platform.

This Design was made over several months. The concept was created by trying to enhance the player experience in an Augmented Reality setting. With The Unity  being the game engine.

This was an accumulation of many resource across unity. For example a package called, AR foundation was used for face tracking . This is a newly realsed package for unity with many new tools for game developers.

This project also used Vuforia for Augmented Reality tracking and management.

Photon is also for use in multiplayer networking.

The design itself uses Augmented Reality masks that can be manipulated by the player.

These masks are used as inputs the solve a puzzle.

Each player is connected to a mirror that is uniquely theirs, In order to solve the puzzle players must equip the correct mask from a selection of three.

Tablets are made to show all players as a means of feedback and special orientation, this is because not all smart phones currently support use of the front and back facing camera  simultaneously.

. In order to get the visuals across the net work it had to be broken it down into bytes
and reformed in an image on the other end of the network.

The mask was made in Maya and zbrush. Then textured in substance painter. Then made a asset with AR foundation as reference.
